Now With Even More Irregular

We’ve got a new homeless guy hanging around the Library. This isn’t surprising since the temperature has barely warmed up to freezing over the last few weeks and has even dropped as low as  -4°F. It has been an exceptionally brutal winter and the Library is a nice warm place to hang out, so hang they do. In fact, the last several days have been a real freak show with multiple people wandering around at the same time talking to themselves and such.

Anyway, this new guy never stops pacing. Sometimes he does this thing where he backs up like there is some kind of invisible barrier blocking his way and he goes around it. He walks around the Library with his hoodie up mumbling to himself until it’s time to close. At closing time, we’ve found him hiding in the Men’s Room two days in a row now. We understand that it’s damn cold outside, but when it’s closing time you can’t stay @ the Library but there are shelters around that will take people in this time of year.

I’m not sure what happened but the police had a chat with the pacer yesterday inside the Library. I know a staff member witnessed him unsuccessfully trying to gain access to the building next door… Maybe that’s what it was about? I don’t know but I’m sure I’ll be writing more about this guy in the days to come, after all February is right around the corner and the last week of January and the first two weeks of February are usually the worst weeks of the winter.

If he can make it through February he might be able to turn his luck around. We’ve helped a few homeless people secure jobs and they’re making a decent go at it right now including the pie guy. With any luck the economy won’t slide any further and jobs can be preserved for everyone… I have high hopes for us all.

  1. That is great that you have helped people find employment… Keep up the good work.

  2. We do our best… Things aren’t looking too good though. Lately we have had a tremendous influx of people looking for work who come in to use our computers. It’s very sad.

  3. Every time you talk about your irregulars I think of Dewey and Ned the naked lawyer.

Though you’d think I’d think of The Baker Street Irregulars being a Sherlock Holmes fan and all.

  4. sadly, you’re more optimistic about the economy than I am. I’ll try to be more optimistic about your predictive abilities Woeful
