ACLU Sues U.S. Government
On this dark day for our Republic, a few people took a stand and shed a ray of hopeful light on the otherwise bleak path that we have decided to follow. The ACLU filed a lawsuit in New Your City on behalf of many groups including Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and The Electronic Frontier Foundation as our Dumbass in Chief signed the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) Amendments Act. The lawsuit aims to declare the FISA Amendments Act a violation of Constitutional law and dismantled.
We can only hope…
In other news, President Bush concluded a meeting at the G8 summit in Japan today by declaring, “Goodbye from the world’s biggest polluter,” while punching the air and grinning. And no, this is not a story from The Onion. Needless to say, the other attendees including Gordon Brown and Nicolas Sarkozy looked on in horror as this unfolded. I cannot believe that this buffoon is the leader of the free world. Bush seems to have an infinite capacity to further sink to lower levels. This man has absolutely no respect whatsoever for anyone or anything.
What have we done?

George Bush is acting like that worker who has just put in his 2 weeks notice, and starts acting a fool because he is about to leave anyway, so it doesn’t really matter. This person never comes in on the last day and everyone is happy they decided to stay home.

You know, the ACLU supports NAMBLA, which is a group that wants it to be legal to RAPE three year old boys. So anything they’re for I’m against until they come to their senses and say “You know, pedophiles don’t deserve free speach.”

Well, except that he’s been a fool for the last 8 years. Not like it’s anything new. I suspect the difference is that his handlers don’t care at this point, so they don’t try to muzzle him anymore.
I’m glad that the ACLU is going to fight FISA, since those politicians who are sworn to uphold the Constitution have failed miserably in their duty.

Usually when an exiting employee starts acting too crazy, management will tell the employee they don’t have to finish out the 2 weeks. Bush is acting a fool because he knows that can’t happen to him. I also believe Bush is acting a little out of spite as well. Getting back at all the people who made fun of him as president. He saw one too many Bush calendars, and is acting on that I shall have the last laugh mentality.
A new admendment should be added, if the leaving president starts acting a fool they can’t sign s**t or start s**t, and if its really bad they should be put on White House, house arrest. (I stole that last part from Max) If a president starts making -whatever I don’t care I am leaving anyway soon, and I will still be rich decisions- we as a people will have to live with these choices. The decision on a president’s ability to still act would be made by a We the people and a congress vote. If passed the V.P. if thought acceptable will make decisions for a few months unless they’re running for president. If they are not acceptable or are running for president, we will go down the line to the Speaker of the House.

I honestly think that he doesn’t realize what he’s doing. He’s just a man who thinks that he’s what is right. Now..no attacks. But I think that Bush is doing the best he can…whether or not we think it’s right or wrong.

Humm… I’m not at all familiar with NAMBLA. But I find it hard to believe that the ACLU is like, “Step right up! Get your 3 year old human sex toys right here!” or anything. This has to be an oversimplification of a complicated issue.
Hi Arkham: I’m disappointed in Obama. FISA/Telecom immunity is not a small issue, it shreds the Bill of Rights. That said, I still intend to vote for him because McCain is totally unacceptable. If nothing else vote for Obama because of his healthcare proposal… And there is more in voting for him than just that as well…

Well, the buffoon in chief does not amaze me as much. In the end, it was the dumbasses in this country who voted him in–twice. So, in a way, they deserve what they get. Too bad the rest of us who knew better have to suffer as well.
And I am glad as well the ACLU is suing. While I do not agree with them all the time (I do find the NAMBLA thing bothersome), overall, they tend to be ones who stand up for our rights, especially at a time when the government is more than happy to shred the Constitution they (allegedly) swore to protect and preserve.
In the end, what worries me is the dumbasses in this country will simply elect Bush Lite for another four years. I mean, they already voted for the clowns who are pretty much doing away with our rights. What else is left? Anyone overseas have a spare room or two? I will be happy to chip in around the house for a place to stay. 😉

I was talking with a coworker about this (and many other idiotic and potentially deadly things he’s done) and I said that I wish we would just go ahead and impeach him and get it done. The person responded that it didn’t matter since we were so close to an election anyway and the party was already pulling away from him and putting their efforts into McCain (equally terrifying I might add). To hell with that though. He needs to be impeached even if it’s on the very last day of his presidency. The American people need to flex those muscles for something other than a blow job and see what it feels like to really be a part of the political process.
I’m stoked the ACLU is suing and I support them all the way. I only wish I wasn’t so far from DC. I’d love to go protest; put those rights to good use before they take them away.

The ACLU does not support NAMBLA. The ACLU supports free speech.
You cannot support free speech and in the same breath say, but not for those people over there. That is not free speech. That is censorship. And no matter whether or not you agree with some people’s opinions, you must still, if you support this Constitution, support and defend their right to voice it.

There are plenty of reasons that Obama is still WAY better than McCain. I’ll probably vote for him, but honestly, whether I personally do or not will be virtually meaningless – Obama will win Illinois whether I vote for him or cast a protest vote for Cynthia McKinney (Green Party), or whatever vote I choose. If Obama needs my vote to win Illinois, it’s a lost cause regardless.

On the topic of NAMBLA. I don’t know what the specific reference is to, but generally the ACLU favors freedom of speech and freedom of expression regardless of the source. They will also represent the KKK or neo-nazi groups in first amendment cases.
I may not like NAMBLA or the KKK or neo-nazi groups, in fact I may find them repugnant, but the fight to preserve freedom of speech is worth fighting. Abridge it for some and where does it end?
The ACLU does NOT support criminal actions that may be taken by such groups, and would not defend their right to engage in harmful or violent acts. Their right to free speech, however, they will defend – and we should all be thankful that a group like the ACLU WILL fight for our rights.

Rachel: Impeachment at this point would be more about setting an example… And it would be a good example to set.
Angsty, history is going to judge him as least least that… And Congress as well for not stepping up to the plate to be Bush’s check & balance. Every system put in place by the Founding Fathers has failed. This lawsuit puts the ball in the legal system… The final Check. Will it fail too? If it does it will represent the total failure of our system of government.

The ACLU and the legal system is our last hope Arkham. The buck stops there.

I agree that FISA is bad, but let’s not limit the blame here. Bush would never have had the opportunity to sign the bill unless both houses of Congress passed the bill by resounding amounts in both houses. The bill was veto-proof, and that’s a tough thing to do for any bill that has any sort of controversy surrounding it. Not letting off Bush, but Congress is even more culpable than Bush in this matter (or at the very least just as culpable).
As far as NAMBLA and the ACLU go, ACLU just defended the portion of the case that involved free speech. They specifically stated that they were not defending the other issues in the case.

Hi Monk: Without a doubt this is a massive failure of two of the three checks and balances that represent our system of government. Hopefully, the ACLU’s lawsuit will let precipitate the third and final branch to do its job and right the wrong that has been done. That said, if Bush didn’t commit a felony in the first place Congress wouldn’t have been put in this situation. EPIC FAIL! Judicial Branch – Get it right!!
