Elevator Fun!

I had a frustrating day today, as everybody was exceptionally needy. But that’s not what this post is about. This post is about the heavy set guy, with short dark hair who entered the elevator and just stood there as he watched the doors open and close for nearly five minutes straight this morning. I watched this spectacle unfold from the reference desk, where I have a direct and unobstructed view of the elevator and its occupants.

The guy stepped into the elevator, and immediately turned around to face the doors. The doors closed momentarily hiding the blank expression on the man’s face. The doors opened… The doors closed…. The doors opened again revealing the same blank look. As the doors were closing the next time, the man hurled himself through the ever narrowing passage, then reeled around to watch the doors close from the outside. He waited for a moment, then methodically pressed the down button. The elevator made it’s trip down one flight, where a middle-aged woman with blonde hair boarded for the trip up to the second floor.

She had no idea what was waiting for her on arrival, as evinced by the expression on her face when the doors opened to the guy with the blank stare. For a fleeting instant, there was befuddled look upon the woman’s face, she then collected herself and hurried past the man who again climbed into the elevator. This time, however, instead of simply watching the doors perpetually open and close, he rode the lift to the first floor… And back again to the second.

He exited the elevator, then muttering to himself, began wandering around the Library…
