Winter Haute Couture

Today the Library was a ghost town. At one point, I counted 10 people. Four of them were homeless. It was a ghost town primarily because of the massive slush fest of a snowstorm that blew through. Getting home was a real pleasure, it took me twice as long as it usually does. Near the end of the day, I noticed someone sporting a clear plastic garbage bag draped over his head and coat as he headed out into the storm. I commented on this and a coworker began to laugh.

After a fashion he collected himself and relayed a story about a homeless couple who came in years ago during a similar storm. They wore a garbage bag too… However, they had their getup rigged like in a three-legged race, where only one leg from each was separate from the other two that were grouped together. He said they walked through the Library in unison until they got settled. Once again, he laughed uncontrollably. He shook his head and simply said, “It’s true.”
