After being a public librarian for 7 years I've developed a 1000-yard stare... And sometimes feel like the walking wounded.

I know a few librarians like this...
When you are growing up, there are two institutional places that affect you most powerfully—the church, which belongs to God, and the public library, which belongs to you. The public library is a great equalizer.
- Keith Richards
I have never made but one prayer to God, a very short one: ‘O Lord, make my enemies ridiculous.’ And God granted it.
- Voltaire
Despite the meek, shush-shushing stereotype, librarians are largely a freedom-upholding, risk-taking group. In the name of the First Amendment and anti-censorship, they have championed the causes of provocative writers and spoken out against banned and challenged books.
- Writer Linton Weeks, Washington Post
I really didn't realize the librarians were, you know, such a dangerous group. ... You think they're just sitting at the desk, all quiet and everything. They're like plotting the revolution, man. I wouldn't mess with them.
- Michael Moore
Those who burn books today will burn people tomorrow.
- Anonymous witness, Nazi bonfire 1933
First they came for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Communist. Then they came for the Social Democrats, and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Social Democrat. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a Jew, Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak up for me.
- Pastor Martin Neimoller
We are not afraid to entrust the American people with unpleasant facts, foreign ideas, alien philosophies, and competitive values. For a nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.
- John F. Kennedy
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
- Benjamin Franklin
A constitution of government, once changed from freedom, can never be restored; liberty once lost, is lost forever.
- John Adams

lost pet, perhaps?
Apparently they found it on top of the Circulation Desk. Then they chased it into the baby changing room where they trapped it.
Couldn’t they have used it in their summer programming? Or made a Childrens’ Department pet out of him?
did you let it go?
One of the women who works in Childrens’ used to work in Animal Control. She tricked it into a paper bag and release it outside. I don’t have time to fool around with mice so I would have taken the path of least resistance… Splat.
well I think that you should just take him home and keep him.
Creepy.
This is why I’m a firm believer of keeping library cats…
I wouldn’t have a problem with that… Sadly too many people are allergic.
You shoulda called me.. I’m The Mouse whisperer. Serious. I would LOVE to find a mouse in the brary….
I bust my ass to come up with clever posts and get one comment if I’m lucky. You post 10 words about a mouse and get 7 (now
comments. What the hell am I doing wrong???
Hello Grind. I can do without the mouse. Luckily we don’t have a problem with rodents or roaches… I know of some nearby Libraries that have serious problems with both. Nothing like rats roaming the closed stacks.
Hi Effing! I blogged for months without garnering many comments, then I began commenting on other blogs more and that seemed to elicit a reciprocal response. Try that, I think that commenting is just as important as posting. If you don’t have time to do both back off a bit on the posting to give yourself more time to read and comment on other blogs. If it’s any consolation I may not comment much or at length but I do read your posts all the time via RSS.
